Wesley O'Rear Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 25, 2025.
Wesley Dodd O'Rear: March 16, 1982 - May 24, 2025

Wesley Dodd O'Rear, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away at his home in Mobile, Alabama, on May 24, 2025. He was 43 years old. Wes was born on March 16, 1982, in Mobile, where he spent most of his life, as well as cherished time in Point Clear. His childhood was filled with energy and curiosity, shaped by a love for music and sports. He attended UMS-Wright and graduated from McGill-Toolen High School, later studying at Auburn University and the University of South Alabama.

A celebration of Wes's life will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Ashland Place United Methodist Church, with a visitation to follow at the church.

Wes was preceded in death by his grandparents, Kathryn and Caine O'Rear Jr. (Jasper, AL), and Estelle and Brown Howell (Panama City, FL). He is survived by his parents, Gwen and Caine O'Rear III; his brothers, Caine O'Rear IV and Howell O'Rear (Kelly); his cherished nephews, Jet and Lewis; his beloved niece, Estelle; and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved him dearly.

Wes had a spirited and inquisitive nature. He was known for his wide-ranging conversations - often centered around music, politics, or sports - and had a gift for making any holiday gathering livelier. Friends and family would often joke that he missed his calling as a long-form podcast host. Wes remained deeply connected to those who cared for him, and never lost his humor, spirit, and belief in the basic goodness of people, even in the midst of life's great challenges.

One of Wes's greatest joys was being an uncle. He loved his niece and nephews, and he especially enjoyed spending time with them at Soldier Creek, one of his favorite places. His deep love for his family was especially evident in his close relationship with his mother, Gwen, with whom he shared a special and unshakable bond.

Wes will be remembered for his generous heart, vibrant spirit, and unwavering optimism. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
