Whitty "Pug" Smith III, 68, formerly of Washington, NC, passed away on June 25, 2025, at his home in Atlantic Beach, NC.

Whit was born on May 22, 1957, in Washington, NC, to the late Whitty Smith II and his mother Nola Smith. He was known for being a true family man with a larger-than-life personality, who loved gathering with people, telling stories, and creating memories to last a lifetime. Whit was able to lead a crowd and was known for his infectious laugh, his unforgettable baby back ribs, and signature pot of beans.

He was employed with Frischkorn, the premier supplier of industrial pipes, and built a successful career in sales, covering Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Whit had a special knack for connecting with people wherever he went. A true passion of his was offshore fishing. From the warm waters of Costa Rica to the wild coasts of Alaska, his fishing adventures were unmatched.

For over 30 years, he enjoyed time with family and friends at his beloved home in Hilton Head, SC, a relaxing retreat from everyday life. Music was another great passion. With a personal collection of over 2000 albums, he could spend hours sharing stories behind each one. May Whit be remembered for his devotion to his family and love for life.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Kathy Smith; daughters, Kasey Hearne (Mitch) of Aiken, SC and Whitney Edens (Austin) of Charleston, SC; mother, Nola Smith of Washington, NC; sister, Terry Walker (Steve) of Washington, NC; brother, Allen Smith of Charlotte, NC; and grandchildren, Knox Hearne, Miles Hearne, Smith Edens, and Ava Edens.
