The word civism is something I'll always associate with Mr. Bates. He was a frequent patron at the Pointe-Claire Library where I had the chance to engage many a conversation with him on a variety of topics. And being a Maritimer by birth, he brought some of the familiarity of my own Maritime roots to the forefront in the easy natural and friendly way I'm sure he'll always be remembered.

I am so sorry to hear about Uncle Wilf. He was a wonderful man who will be greatly missed.

I will always cherish the Toast to the Bride that Wilf shared at our wedding in 1985, family gatherings, and the Skype talks we enjoyed in recent years.

I am sorry that I am unable to be there today and am praying for your family today, and in the days to come.

"Mr. Wilf" held a very special place in the hearts of my children and me. It will not be the same to pull in the driveway next door and not see the big wave and smile that always greeted us. You will be sadly missed Mr. Wilf.

Deepest condolences to the family. I met Mr. Bates as a result of my professional responsibilities. He was a gentle soul, respectful of the views of others and devoted to his community.

Sincerely,
