I served with him on a number of occasions during my 38 year RN/RNR career, but the dit I most fondly recall was after I left full-time service and became a broadcaster and interviewed him as Director of the RNLI. He looked at me over his half-rim glasses and asked me if we had met before? Quick as a flash, I replied 'Yes Sir, I beat you at golf in Gothenberg!'. He threw his head back and roared with laughter. He was one of the best.

Worked for you back in 77 doing my shore time. It was one of the best times I had in the RN . A true gentleman who looked after his lads. Still missed after all this time. Fair winds and calm seas

Had the pleasure of meeting him in 1982 as a young US Coast Guardsman. He was in charge of the RNLI at the time, posted in Portsmouth. A consummate gentleman. Impressed to this day. Bill Kavanaugh, SN, USCG

A great commanding officer. I served in Ark Royal at the same time as Captain Graham and he had enormous respect from the ships company, he dserved every bit!! He was a friendly man but
we all knew who the Captain was when the chips were down.
It was a pleasure to serve under him and although I served with a few different senior officers none of them matched Captain Graham, unfortunately I never met him as Rear Admiral

I wrote the advertising for the RNLI for over 3 years when Rear Admiral Graham was in charge of the charity. Wonderful man to write for. Having appointed me to the task he left me to it, no fiddling, querying or wanting to interfere. And all done with great humour and personal charm. Great bloke.

So sad to read that Wilf has passed away. My sincere condolences. In '75 Ark Royal was my first ship and it turned out to be the happiest 4 years I served. The painting which my parents had commissioned in '90 has proudly hung in my home ever since as the 'old lady' was my favourite. God bless you sir, rest in peace!
