William "Bill" Bennett, 71, passed away peacefully at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital on 1 September 2025.

Born on 19 March 1954 in Poughkeepsie, New York, Bill was the son of William Bennett and E. Charlotte Miller. He grew up in Millbrook, NY and attended the local schools there. Although he suffered a brain injury at birth, he did not let the handicap define him. He was a long time resident of Brattleboro, Vermont, and worked various jobs his whole life.

In his younger days Bill enjoyed bowling in Brattleboro, and going to vintage car rallies. Lately, he liked watching Red Sox games and old Western movies and television programs. Bill was a kind soul, well liked by those who knew him and was called a "gentle giant" by the staff at his assisted living home.

He is survived by his sister, MaryAnn Bennett and her husband Wayne Blanchard of Rockingham, VT, his nephew, Zachary Blanchard and his partner Katy Taylor, his brother, Matt Bennett and his wife Becky of Jackson, Tennessee, and his sister Kim Bownas and her husband Ted of Millbrook, NY, and his step-mother, Shirley Bennett of Romulus, NY and step-brother, Kevin Tompkins. He also leaves behind four nieces, Samantha Brookins, Brianna Bownas, Molly Bennett, Annie Bennett, and another nephew, Christopher Jasmine.

Billy, I will miss you very much. We always had great conversations at Thanksgiving and Christmas. I enjoyed talking to you about music, baseball, and especially Inga. You two were great friends. Inga, Winga, Dinga! She's crazy.... but LOVEABLE! My life is better for knowing you, and every time I light a Yankee Candle I will think of you.

Love,
Katy
