The Bennett family is saddened to announce the passing of Garf on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at the age of 86 years.
Garf will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Dorothy; son, Joseph (Karen Sher); grandchildren, Chloe, Sarah Jane (Adam Jackson) and Rebecca-Anne (Bret Stewart) and Johnny McCann; great-grandchildren, Adam James, William Bennett, Griffith Lee and Bennett Anne; stepsons Bruce and Russ (JoAnn) McLaughlin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Garf was predeceased by his father, William James Hall and mother, Lillian Canning; wife, Lois; daughter, Carmine; brothers, John and Lloyd; and sisters, Mary and Ruth.
Garf was born in Retlaw, Alberta on November 22, 1925. He began his career as a butcher and soon after, joined the army. After the war, Garf opened a grocery store in the Norwood area of Edmonton. Following a successful career in the grocery business, Garf sold his store and entered into the real estate industry in the late 50's. He consistently won numerous awards as a top salesman and quickly rose to management positions, eventually becoming President of Western Region for Melton Real Estate. Garf was highly regarded amongst his peers and served a term as President of the Alberta Real Estate Association in 1977. Later, he opened his own real estate company – Bennett Realty – and continued to work into his late 70's.
Garf's favourite pastime was golf and he obtained four hole-in-ones, as well as driving a ball farther than golfers half his age.
He fought a tough battle with a lengthy disease and will now always remain in our hearts.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Connelly- McKinley Funeral Home, 10011 – 114 Street, Edmonton.
