Officer Farrell was for generations the rational voice of the Vancouver Police Force in Vancouver High Schools. He ignited a spirit of community. Those are fundamental principles toward community security. That deserves a tribute to his enduring rational and democratic message. Let's continue to learn from his local wisdom.

Officer Farrell was my drivers Ed instructor at Hudson´s Bay high school in 1968. I have never forgotten his excellent instruction and I believe it was he who kept me safe behind the wheel all of these years.

Good morning Ellen, Ann, and Mrs. Lattanzi. Truly sorry for your loss. Bill, your Dad and your companion was a good man, Janice my sister and I were talking about your family and growing up. Many good folks at St. Joesph's Vancouver. A life time ago - when I first turned 16 I got in a wreck. Bill was teaching some kind of corrective class at Clark College. If you were there, you had been into some kind of trouble or traffic violation, or just in trouble with the law. I walked into the back of the class. Bill says- Mr. Butsch you are in the wrong room. I said, well Mr. Farrell I got in a wreck a month and a day after I got my license. He said sit down and we will get this figured out. That was 49 years ago so he worked something out as I am still driving and not incarcerated. I would say Bill had a great haul. A long run with many points touching other peoples lives. Glad he was so caring. Great memories of the Farrell family, and Lattanzi's too. You all be well / be safe. Blessings. Edgar & Caroline Butsch and the Butsch family.

After reading his obituary in the 9/18/25 Columbian, my memory was jogged to remember Officer Farrell from over 60 years ago when Officer Farrell served as the VPD mentor for our school patrol at Harney Elementary. We all loved Officer Farrell and he was a great ambassador for the police department with us kids. It's nice to learn he lived a long and fulfilled life.
