William Boyd Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 4, 2024.
William Austin Boyd, known affectionately as Boyd, passed away on July 19, 2024, at the age of 90 in Jacksonville, Florida. Born on July 2, 1934, in Livingston, Alabama, Boyd was a dedicated family man and a hard worker, known for his love of the Florida sunshine where he spent many years providing for his family.

Boyd served honorably in the Army, dedicating himself to the values of duty and service that he carried throughout his life. His military background instilled in him a discipline and resilience that were evident to all who knew him.

A true family man, Boyd is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 64 years, Patricia A. Boyd; his children, Jack, Cindy, and Darryle; daughters-in-law Carolyn and Marla; and son-in-law Mike. He was a proud grandfather to Ryan, Britney, Amanda, Tyler, Cody, Michelle, Spencer, and Matthew, and a delighted great-grandfather to six great-grandchildren. Boyd also held a special place in his heart for Wes Royal, who was like a brother to him. He was preceded in death by his brother Buddy Boyd, and sisters Dot Baty, Patsy Smith, and Sara Baty.

Boyd was an avid fan of westerns and the SEC, and cherished phone calls and visits from friends and family. His warmth and dedication to his loved ones were his most defining traits.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude's Hospital in Boyd's memory. This gesture reflects his lifelong commitment to helping others and making a positive impact in the world.
