Liz,
I feel like I knew your daddy from your descriptions of him and the great trips you took with your parents. I hope those memories can sustain you and bring you happiness again. I'm thinking of you during these rough days. Please let me know when you're back in Maryland so we can connect.

Dear Patti and Liz, We are so sorry to hear about your dad. He and your mom were such good friends to my parents, and together, they made life long memories. Just a few weeks ago, I asked them what they're favorite trip had been and they both individually answered, "traveling Europe with your parents." My oldest daughter still remembers going to Kinston Indians games with my parents and your dad. He had an extraordinary life, and I know you will miss him greatly. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Sending you our love and strength.

I am very appreciative of receiving this notice from my paternal uncle, Quentin Haning. We are descendants of Dr. Chantry's aunt, Lillian Chantry Haning. My father was Dr. Chantry's contemporary and, like him, served in WW2 with distinction. I think that I mention this because these sorts of connections, however tenuous, have become increasingly important as I age. The obituary that you have provided is remarkable for its portraiture of a full and extraordinary life. I offer my condolences, but more importantly, my congratulations on having had a father with such wonderful qualities.
