Bill was one of my best friends in Hawaii, serving together in VMFA-212 and VMFA-235. We used to surf every weekend, taking his 1957 Chevy with our boards tied on the roof with rope. Great times for sure! Then I was transferred to Chu Lai, Vietnam. A few months later, Bill showed up in Chu Lai also. After we returned from Vietnam, we lost contact as most Vets did because it was such an unpopular war and we weren't welcomed home. Sad, but we just scattered in the winds and didn't talk much of our military service. I can't even remember the names of those I served with in war. A year ago, I remembered Bill Coulter's name and started to search for him, only to find he had passed a few days earlier. I'm sorry I missed you Bill, but we'll be reunited again someday.

I am sorry to read of the passing of Bill Coulter. We spent a lot of time together as Marines in the avionics schools at the Naval Air Station in Millington Tennessee. He even came to my home in Michigan during a long weekend pass. We ended up going to different squadrons on different bases. So for about 40 years, we lost contact after the training, and then, after doing a search on the internet, talked to each other once around 2010. Bill sounded like he was having health difficulties at that time and did not want to be bothered, so there was no follow-up I am sad to say. Bill was a nice decent guy and I enjoyed his friendship. My condolences to his family. Semper Fi.

I believe I knew Bill in Hawaii, VMFA-212 and VMFA -235, and in Vietnam, Chu Lai. I haven't seen or heard from Bill since our time in Vietnam. I remember really looking up to him and enjoyed our friendship, especially surfing in Hawaii. I am terribly saddened to hear about his passing.
