William Cramer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 1, 2018.
Cramer, William Richard of Anaheim, CA, passed away on June 20, 2018 at the age of 86.
Richard is survived by his wife, Mary; his son, William Cramer (Janet); daughter Christina Smith; grandchildren, Paul Cramer (Laura), Cheryl Miller (Adam), Rode Cramer, Percy Cramer, Louise Van Horn and Cian Smith; great grandchildren, Miriam and Juliette Miller; daughter-in-law, Josefina Cramer. He was predeceased by his brother, Verne; wife, Carole; sons, David, John; and daughter, Carolyn Faurot.
Richard was born in Anaheim on July 25, 1931 to parents Olin and Ruth. He graduated from Anaheim Union High School in 1949 and received his B.A. from Claremont McKenna (Men's) College in 1953. During college he served two years in the California Air National Guard, met and married Carole Furman in 1952. They were married 45 years until Carole died in 1997. Richard married Mary Eisen and they have been together for 20 years.
Shortly after college graduation, Richard became a member of the family business having farms that produced eggs for stores in Orange and Los Angeles Counties. Over time this business grew to include Star Milling Co. in Perris, CA that was owned through a partnership between Richard and the Eisen family of Norco Ranch, a large producer and marketer of eggs in southern California. Richard was acknowledged as a leader in the animal feed and egg production industries and was awarded "Farmer of the Year - Poultry" by the California Department of Food and Agriculture in 1959. There were many other agricultural and business enterprises that Richard had ownership in, including Goose Creek Golf Club in Jurupa Valley, CA, Orchard Egg Farms in Anaheim and Manchester Feeds in Arizona.
Richard also had many interests outside of his business life. These included being an active Trustee of Claremont McKenna College from 1987 to 2006. He was a leader in many civic and community organizations, past and present, as Member of the Board of Governors of the Bowers Museum, a founding donor to the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, 35-year member of Lincoln Club of Orange County. Richard was a member of Valley Group in Riverside County, Member of the Peralta Hills Water Board, Past President in Residence of Peralta Hills Homeowners Association, Board Member of the Rose Institute in Claremont, CA, former Chairman of the CA Egg Commission, member at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Orange and many other organizations. He was also an active hunter with memberships in the Shikar Safari Club and Safari Club International. Richard was an avid SCUBA diver with over 100 dives. These activities allowed him to travel the world extensively into his 80's, with Mary by his side through these journies and his final moments.
There will be a private interment for the family and close friends at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, CA. A celebration of Richard's life will be held at Goose Creek Golf Club on a date and time to be determined.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to: USC Verdugo Hills Hospital Foundation, 1812 Vedugo Blvd. 4th Floor, Glendale, CA 92018.

I had the honor of knowing Richard for over 45 years. From sharing Angel baseball and Anaheim Orange Team Tennis season tickets to being a business colleague, and even working for him for a period of time during the 90's.Richard was a man of the highest integrity. You could always trust that his word was good, and that he would do the right thing. He was very well respected in the poultry and feed industries. His unselfish contribution of time and money to the local community and charitable causes helped make a difference in many lives. To me he did not seek a lot of attention and kept a low profile. He got his satisfaction in knowing that he was making a difference. This was true in both his personal and professional life.He will be missed by all the lives he touched. My sincere condolences to his family.Respectfully,Steve Lindersmith

Richard, as I knew him, and I were in the same Air National Guard (ANG) Squadron in the 1950s. In fact, we rode together to the ANG base in Compton, CA. My brother, Ernest worked for him on the chicken ranch on Canal Street in Orange.
My condolences to his family.
