William Cruttenden Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 12, 2025.
William Ernest Cruttenden, known affectionately as Bill, Willy, Gramps, and Dad, passed away on April 8, 2025, in Woodstock, Connecticut, at the age of 87. Born on August 2, 1937, in Endicott, New York, William grew up in the community and graduated from Tioga Center High School. He proudly served in the Army, dedicating himself to a life of discipline and service, which he carried into his civilian life.

William was a skilled carpenter by trade, a career that not only showcased his craftsmanship but also his dedication to building a stronger community. He was a cherished member of the East Woodstock Congregational Church, where he was deeply involved in various activities and found a great sense of community and faith.

Family was the cornerstone of William's life. He is survived by his loving spouse of 66 years, Carol A. Cruttenden; his children, William Cruttenden II and his wife Wendy, Robert Cruttenden and his wife Denise, and DeEtta Spalding and her husband Seth. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren William Cruttenden III, Jacob Cruttenden, Ashton Cruttenden, Carilee Integlia and her husband Steven, and their daughters Emmalee, Arabella, and Gabrielle, as well as Alana Spalding and her husband Chris Workman and their daughter Margaret.

William's love for fishing provided him with many peaceful moments and enjoyable memories, a hobby that he cherished throughout his life. His family and friends will remember him as a pillar of strength, love, and kindness.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the East Woodstock Congregational Church in East Woodstock, CT, at 11:00 am, where William was a devout member. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the East Woodstock Congregational Church or the Danielson Veterans Coffeehouse . The Rose Hill Funeral Home is assisting the family during this difficult time. Willy's legacy of love, craftsmanship, and community service will live on through those he touched.

Bill was a childhood and teenage close friend of mine. As teenagers we really enjoyed out friendship. We played sports together and of course I also went to school with his wife, Carol. They were a great couple and will always be in my heart and mind.
