Dear Jan,
It took us awhile to appreciate John's quips and humor, but as we spent more time with him were so impressed with his resume. He must have been so bored with all of us marginal bridge players. He certainly was a remarkable man.
we will miss him and hope that you will not be a stranger at Esplanade!

Dearest Terry and Family:
I was very saddened to hear of your great loss. I had the pleasure of meeting John at which time he poked great fun, showing terrific humor. Terry, amid all the jokes John said in all seriousness that he cares very much about you. He asked me to take care of you. This showed how much he truly loved you. I promised him that, aside from my cooking, you'll be a-okay.
I was also touched by the obvious love Jan and John shared. Touching heads as they nodded off to sleep, they're obviously lucky in love to have each other.
To the rest of the Devine family, my deepest and kindest regard goes out to each one of you. Death may take a loved one away, but it's also a reminder of the bonds that remain among the family members left behind. A reminder that we should love and show care to each other while we still have the chance.
Most loving regard,
Zoarine

I met John and Jan on a bridge cruise to Mexico. We played every day for a week, and I could tell John was an exceptional player. He was also funny. We will miss him.
