William DeVito Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 29, 2025.
William "Billy" DeVito, 69, passed away on April 6, 2025, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Born on June 29, 1955, in Summit, New Jersey, Billy lived a life marked by dedication to his work, deep love for his family and friends, and an unwavering zest for life.

After graduating from Rutgers University with a degree in Labor Studies, Billy began his lifelong career with Sheet Metal Workers Local 25. He joined the union shortly after high school and quickly became known for his commitment and leadership. In 2004, he was elected Financial Secretary/Business Agent of Local 25-a role he held with distinction until his retirement in 2016. His years of service reflected not only professional excellence but also a deep respect for the dignity of labor and the people he represented.

Billy was a man who embraced life fully. He found joy in simple pleasures-sharing good food, riding his Harley Fatboy through open roads, playing rounds of golf under sunny skies, and going on cruises with his beloved wife Diane Schaad and their friends. These moments were not just hobbies; they were expressions of how Billy chose to live-with enthusiasm, laughter, and connection.

The name William means "Protector," a title that suited Billy perfectly. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Known for his loyalty and warmth, Billy was a loving son to Mary and Morris DeVito; a devoted husband to Diane; and a steadfast friend to many. His presence brought comfort and joy to those around him.

Billy's family meant everything to him. He is survived by his wife Diane Schaad; brothers Morris DeVito and his wife Dot, and Anthony DeVito and his wife Teresa; sisters Toni Mandato, Mary Jean Pedicini and her husband Rick, JoAnn DeVito, and Grace Caruso and her husband Richard. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, as well as great-great-nieces and nephews-all of whom were touched by his generous spirit. He was predeceased by his parents Mary and Morris DeVito and his brother Louis DeVito.

Though Billy had a deep respect for humanity rooted in his Catholic faith, it was through action-his kindness, loyalty, humor-that he most clearly expressed that belief.

A memorial service celebrating Billy's life will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Ancona Bistro located at 645 Valley Rd., Gillette, New Jersey 07933.

Billy DeVito lived each day with purpose and heart. His memory will continue to inspire all who knew him-to live fully, love deeply, and always be there for one another.

We were so sorry to hear of Billy's passing. He was such a fixture in the life of my Aunt Evie and Cousin. I will always remember the folding dollar trick. May his memory always be a blessing to those who knew him and loved him. To his wife Diane, I am so sorry for the loss of your true-life partner.

You were like family to me from the time we met back in 1995. The memories are endless and will forever be close to my heart. From you making me wear a biker bandana while playing tennis , rollerblading , beaching it, fooling me with endless jokes to the memorable vacations and visits. We had so many awesome times. Brian, Dylan and I love you !!! I´m certain that you are cracking people up on the other side .

We are saddened that Billy is no longer with us today, but are grateful we made many wonderful memories with him and Diane. Betty and I are honored to have had so many opportunities to spend time with them over the years. I think Billy and I had the greatest comradeship at work, in business and at play. I treasured his friendship and we will miss his welcoming smile. We love you Billy and you are so missed dear friend.

It was a sad day for us learning Billy had passed away. No one made us laugh more than Billy. He was a character for sure. But he was kind and always willing to help a friend. We've known Billy and Diane over 50 years and have taken more than 100 pictures of Billy, but this one taken down the Jersey shore on his boat (a favorite of ours) captured his love for life.
Rest in peace dear friend. XO Sandy & George

It's so hard to believe Billy is no longer with us. He was one of the funniest, craziest, most inventive, best handyman I have ever met. He loved his family. He loved Diane. He loved life. I will always remember the fun times we had & most of all the laughs we shared. Gone too soon. May he rest in peace & ride that Harley forever.

There are no words that can fully capture the weight of this loss. Billy was a constant light for anyone lucky enough to know him. From the moment we met, we clicked. We laughed until it hurt, leaned on each other as needed and celebrated our friendship every chance we could on the taking trips together playing golf, trips to the casinos, dinners, or riding our motorcycles. Billy lived his life to the fullest.
Billy had this incredible ability to walk into a room and light it up, not with attention but warmth. He gave without asking. He loved his family and friends without limits through the ups and the downs always showing up with a kind word or shoulder to lean on.
