I think of Bill often. He was a great role model and a good listener. I felt he was a friend.

My deepest condolences. I came upon this obituary by chance actually while looking for an article about my grandfather, William (Leroy) Diehl whom also graduated from Lehigh with a degree in Civil Engineering, worked for Bethlehem Steel, served in WWII and was a devoted family man. Incredible amount of coincidences! "My William Diehl" was born in 1923 and is currently in good health and spirits, although nearly blind, at 98 years old. I will ask him if he knew of "your William Diehl." :) My sincere sympathies. Bill sounds like an extraordinary man. I'm sure his legacy, love and memories live on in many hearts. I hope you appreciate this note although from a stranger.

Bill and Judith's launching and leading the Channel 2 house church group in the 1970's was instrumental in nurturing my spiritual and professional life. I considered him a mentor, especially in the ways of the Lutheran Church in America. He was a mensch. A blessing.

Sending love and sympathy to Bill’s family. I was privileged to know Bill for 18+ years while I was on staff at Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, Emmaus PA.
He worked tirelessly for Ministry in Daily Life. And advocated for many who were marginal in society or whose rights were compromised. What an inspirational man!
We had breakfast monthly to discuss church and world issues. Always a pleasure and something to look forward to. He always wanted to pay. We worked out a deal where one time he would pay and I would offer prayer, the next time I would pay and he got the prayer!!!
So many fond memories. What an honor and privilege to have known and have been an associate and co minister with Bill.

We worked well together. Bill was a kind and generous man. He had told me how he always requested “Senior discounts “ whenever possible and gave those accumulated funds to charity. Bill negotiated on behalf of all the Bethlehem Steel Employees who obtained employment with Barker Steel to obtain a BSC years of service pension when a combined 30 years of service with both Companies was reached . Thank you Bill and Bob Brack for that pension protection.
