Just heard of Brian's passing. My sincerest condolences to Linda and girls and the Dunning Family. Brian was a good friend while we taught together at OLMC and especially the time together coaching the junior teams. Brian was a very giving man who would give you the shirt of his back without question. Many of my fondest memories of my first teaching placement involved Brian. Prior to this I remember Brian as the grade 7 teacher at St. John's Windsor. Brian touched the lives of many students.

In 1983 Brian was my teaching mentor while I was practice teaching. We tried an experiment in class and it was a dismal failure. The vice principal was so upset he wanted me to quit teaching that moment- Brain went to bat for me and not only saved my practice session, but helped me start a very good career- I still think of Brian often and am sad to hear he passed on. My deepest condolences to his family.

Several years have passed since the days when Mr. Dunning taught me but I can still remember that year as being one of my most formative. He was full of wisdom and life lessons that enriched our lives and helped guide us during those difficult early teenage years. Mr. Dunning had a great ability to read people and he was great at reaching out to his students in different ways. Above all, he gave us the discipline that all young students need and you could tell he had a passion for what he did.

Remembering things like his history lessons, his ‘safe version' of dodge ball during gym class, his personal stories and the recycling team that he started at OLMC all evoke fond memories for me. I was hoping that he would be one of those people that you run into later on in life and it saddens me to think that I'll never get the chance to thank him for being such a great mentor. I would like to extend my deepest condolences to Mr. Dunning's family; I hope they find comfort in knowing how much of an impact this great man had on his student's lives.

Mr. Dunning was my grade 7 teacher at St. Jude elementary. I remember him as a kind man with a sense of humour. We really enjoyed having him as a teacher as he did his job with both professionalism and joy. He was a wonderful teacher and made learning an enjoyable experience. Something I never forgot was when he gave each of us a a yo-yo which was either a red Coca-Cola or green Sprite yo-yo. Such a kind gesture and he even let us play with them in class (which we thought was great!). He was a wonderful part of my educational journey.
I am so sorry to learn of his passing. My sympathies,
Kristen Dzibela

Brian influenced many young people as a teacher but none so much as Kaitlin & Amy as their father. May your memories sustain you in the days ahead. Linda you brought joy into Brian's life, he will be in your heart forever
