William Eaker Obituary
Mr. Eaker, 78, of Lake Norman died January 17, 2007 peacefully at home. He was born in Lincolnton, NC to the late Thomas and Katie Palmer Eaker.
Mr. Eaker was a retired Charlotte attorney who was instrumental in establishing the Legal Aid Society of Mecklenburg County when he served as the first director. He later opened his own office where he practiced for over 35 years.
He graduated from Wake Forest College and enlisted in the US Army where he served as a Sergeant in Korea at the end of World War II. He returned home and graduated from Wake Forest School of Law. At Wake Forest he was a member of Phi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity. Following graduation from law school he worked as an insurance claims adjuster for the General Adjustment Bureau. He returned to work as a litigator for GAB Robbins after retiring from his law practice.
Mr. Eaker was a proud member and supporter of the Democratic Party.
Mr. Eaker is survived by daughters, Tressie Eaker Daniels of Raleigh, NC and Mary Ellen Eaker Werts of Cornelius, NC; granddaughters, Maren Werts, Faith Daniels, Kara Werts and Torey Daniels; son-in-law, Sandy Werts; sister, Frona Lee Quirk of Kansas City, KS; sister-in-law, Jean Eaker of Monroe; nieces and nephews: Bill Quirk of Kansas City, MO, Katie Quirk of Leawood, KS, Jim Quirk of Colleyville, TX, Cindy Eaker and Susan Eaker of Monroe. Bill is also survived by many wonderful and loving friends.
He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia Pierce Eaker, and brothers, Frank and Guy Thorne.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, January 19 at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home. Mr. Eaker's family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. Interment will be in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of Lincoln County, 107 N. Cedar Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
Arrangements are in the care of Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service, 4601 Freedom Drive (704/395-0055).

Tressie, Mary Ellen, and families: May God bless you with strength and comfort in this time of mourning. We love you all and wish we could turn back the clock to happier times. Try to take comfort in the wonderful memories you have of times at the Lake. You all were so welcoming of our many visits with you and your family, and there will always be a warm spot in our hearts for y`all. We will miss Bill and think of him often. God Bless you all.
