William Fallon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 10, 2025.
William J. Fallon of Falmouth, MA, passed away suddenly on September 9, 2025.

William, who went by Bill or Billy, was born in Boston and grew up in Hyde Park with his family. A student at Hyde Park High School, he graduated in 1968 and went on to serve six years in the Army Reserves, ending in the early 1970s.

Bill often visited Cape Cod with friends, renting beach houses during the summer. In 1975, he decided to move permanently to the Cape, where he spent the rest of his life working and raising a family. He was employed by New England Telephone, which later became Verizon, from 1974 until his retirement in 2003. Bill was a lineman, climbing telephone poles to install and repair cables, test equipment, and troubleshoot faults, ensuring reliable communication services for homes and businesses throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island, based in Hyannis, MA.

He belonged to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 103 labor union for his entire career. Bill was often seen marching and standing strong on the picket lines with his IBEW brothers and sisters whenever the need arose. He frequently brought his children along to participate, which they truly enjoyed, and which left lasting impressions-teaching them the importance of workers' rights and responsibility.

Bill was an avid sports fan, especially of the Boston Celtics, Boston Red Sox, and most of all, the New England Patriots. His extensive knowledge of sports was a source of pride. In his younger years, he was also a dedicated golfer.

A passionate historian of World War II, Bill could spend hours recounting even the most minute details of battles and history. He was an avid reader, primarily of WWII nonfiction, a passion rooted in his father, Frank Fallon's, service in Germany during WWII.

Bill was known for his wisdom, open-mindedness, and generous support for his children and friends. His favorite idioms included: "The squeaky wheel gets the grease" when advising about job searching, and "You think you're talking to cement?" when giving his sons a playful challenge during their mischievous teen years.

He loved animals and was a long-time donor to the ASPCA.

Bill leaves behind his children: Jamie McCracken and her wife, Jenny, of Onset, MA; his son, Eric Fallon, and his fiancée, Lindsey Beach, of Hyannis, MA; and his sister and best friend, Mary Lynch, of Stoughton, MA. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Althea Ray and Phoenix Brandon.

He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Lillian Fallon, as well as his son, Brandon Joseph, who tragically passed away in 2022. Bill also leaves many close friends who will dearly miss him.

A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
