William George Obituary

William O. George Jr. MARION, Va. William O. George Jr., age 97, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion. He was born in Tazewell and was educated at Tazewell County High School, Bluefield College, Emory & Henry College and Western Kentucky University. Mr. George was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a former treasurer of Tazewell County and was associated with Farm Bureau and the Tazewell Oil Company. Mr. George was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lillie Leece George; his first wife, Ann A. George; a son, Billy George; two brothers, Leece George and Ed George. He is survived by his wife, Joyce G. George of Marion; one daughter, Martha A. and son in-law, Dr. Roderic Burton of Hermitage, Tenn.; one step-daughter, Jeri Barnett of Roanoke, Va.; one stepson, James Deel and wife, Hatsumi of Boones Mill, Va.; one sister, Alice Decker of Standardsville, Va.; two grandchildren, Nathan Burton and wife, Amanda, and Marthel Burton; three step-grandchildren, Erin Barnett, Jason Deel and Erika Deel; one great-granddaughter, Katherine Burton; one niece; and three nephews. Graveside services will be held Friday, June 11, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Marion, with Reverend Mike Teague officiating. The family will receive friends, Thursday evening from 6 until 7 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church, 720 Church St., Marion, VA 24354. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.seaverbrown.com Seaver-Brown Funeral Service and Crematory is serving the George Family.

I am so sorry about your loss. I worked with Mr. George for about 13 years at the Farm Bureau Office, he was a great boss. Have many memories.
