William James Glass

William James (Jim) Glass, born January 21, 1948, in Dayton, Ohio, to Donald and Janet (Schelling) Glass, passed away on May 14, 2023. He lived in Xenia, Ohio, during his childhood, resided in Gaithersburg, Maryland, for many years, and had moved to Chelyabinsk, Russia, in 2022. Jim graduated from Carroll High School in Dayton, Ohio, in 1966; Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio, in 1971; and University of Maryland, College Park, in 2003. Jim worked for the National Institute on Drug Abuse in the National Institutes of Health for 30 years, retiring as chief of the Informatics Program, and was president of Strategic Informatics Advisors. Jim also served as president of the Patina Tool Club for several years. He is survived by his wife, Galima Galiullina; her daughter Guldjun and grandsons, Arthur and Roman; brothers Terry (Barb) Glass, Richard (Annie Lai) Glass, and Thomas (Therese) Glass; sisters Donna Thordsen, Beth Sticka, and Joann Hughes; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim will remain in our hearts forever as a man of extraordinary kindness, joy, and love for dogs, as well as one with a superior talent to add humor to so many situations. In addition to our loss, the golf courses in Maryland will miss Jim greatly.
