Loved having Bill around for our DPU men's tennis matches and tournies. Great guy and wish he was still with us. Would like to "chew the fat" with him now!

Dear Gourley Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Gourley was my first swim teacher and taught me to love the water. I will always remember learning how to breath by taking a bite of the apple off my shoulder and doing torpedoes at Westmoreland and how he came to one of my last swim meets in high school when Scott was my coach. Sometimes when I swim my laps I still think about eating apples.
I always knew Mr. Gourley was kind and caring man who knew a lot about swimming but after reading his obituary I learned how much he enjoyed coaching and sports and how he was an expert. I guess this is good because when I taught swimming for eight years while in school I used many of the things he taught me to teach children in Texas and Massachusetts.
My thoughts are with you.

Doug,

I loved having your dad around at DePauw for our matches and tourneys. He was so interested and passionate in what we were doing and building, and obviously he loved you and your teammates. One of my favorite memories was the Saturday morning he brought you down to DPU for your primary (only?) recruiting visit - he and shot the breeze for a long time while you shot basketballs in the auxiliary gym at Lilly. The other end of the college experience was the NCAA tourney in Atlanta in which you and Goz played doubles and your dad was there for all of it - sad for it to come to an end. I know you and your family miss him but know that he had a major impact on lots of people, including me. Take care and see you soon. Coach Cath

I will forever have great memories of a wonderful man, who pushed you just hard enough, but supported you throughout, during all of his coaching. Gourleys - he will be missed.

Mr. G. was one of the great ones...probably one of the best hires I ever made as Pool Manager at Onwentsia. He was always a pleasure to be around and he was especially a very positive influence on my son, Drew. My thoughts and prayers are with his entire family.

We were blessed to have great coaches at Loyola Academy and Bill was certainly one of them. He was instrumental in the successes we enjoyed and made us all better players and people. I have many fond memories of him.

My sincere condolences to the Gourley family. The Loyola Academy class of 1964 will be gathering for it's 50th reunion in a few days. Sadly many of our truly remarkable coaches will not be able to attend...Len Jardine, Terry Sheehan, Bill Graf, Gene Sullivan and now, Coach Gourley were all called way too soon. May they rest in peace and God bless them all.
