William Harkrider Obituary

Published by Dallas Morning News on May 16, 2019.
HARKRIDER, William Hal William Hal Harkrider of Seagoville, TX, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2019, in Dallas, TX. Bill was born on August 21, 1943, in McAlester, OK. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Naomi Harkrider, sisters, Joan Winklevoss and Jeryal Gay Harkrider. He is survived by his sister, Jan Stone, brothers, Jack and Mark Harkrider and son, James Harkrider. Bill had a keen natural intellect and was mechanically inclined with a lifelong passion for technology and working with his hands. He served in the Coast Guard as a Radioman (RM2), stationed in Alaska and Vietnam. After returning to the Dallas area, he attended college at Paris Jr College and later completed his Associates degree at Mountain View College. His professional career spanned various sectors of the automotive and transportation industries, including roles in sales and mechanics at Ken Grantham Ford in Irving Texas. These passions led him into business for himself as a vehicle and motorcycle dealer and eventually, a custom motorcycle builder at Rider Motors on Harry Hines Blvd in Dallas. Later, he became a long haul truck driver, which satisfied his love for travel and seeing different parts of the country. Bill was a free spirit, fiercely independent, kind and considerate. He was a gentleman and a smart man who loved learning and was always fascinated by how things worked. His love, intellect, and observations will be deeply missed. Godspeed to my father, our brother, our uncle and our friend. Enjoy the open the road. Memorial service on Friday, May 17 at 11:30 am at the DFW National Cemetery. Donations in honor may be made to VNA Meals on Wheels of Dallas.
