bill checked out a 16 lb. shot put as we loaded the bus for the mooseheart rally west of chicago. he evidently was boored and decided to doing some bowling in the hallway of bremen. he broke a door and the glass. after sitting in the deans office all day he never went bowling in the halls. it helped build a character that was a brave and upright student of bremen high school. i will never forget a wonderful friend. bless you and keep you. amen

BILL SIGNED OUT A 16 LB. SHOTPUT FOR USE AT THE MOOSEHEART RELAYS THAT YEAR AS A MANAGER OF THE TRACK TEAM I SIGNED OUT THAT SHOT PUT. LITTLE DID ANYONE THINK BILL WAS GOING BOWLING IN THE HALLS OF BREMEN HIGH SCHOOL. HE BROKE A GLASS DOOR. HE SAT IN THE DEANS OFFICE FOR A DAY. HE LATER HAD A DISTINGUISHED CAREER AS A NEUROSURGEON. IF BREMEN S STAFF HAD PONDERED A DIFFERENT WAY BILL WOULD HAVE NOT MADE MUCH IN LIFE. THE STORY IS HE GAVE BREMEN A NUMBER OF LIGHT STANTIONS FOR THE FOOTBALL FIELD IN A GRACIOUS AND THANKFUL MANNER FOR TREATING HIM KINDLY. BEING SMALL IN STATURE BILL AND DENNIS TATUM AND OTHERS OF THE FOOTBALL TIME SORT OF ADOPTED ME ON OPENING DAY OF CLASSES IN 1959 AT BREMEN. I HAD THE FORTUNATE COMPANIONSHIP OF THE VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM OF DICKIE NELSON, KLEPPER, BILL, GOOSE TATUM AND OTHERS. I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER THOSE DAYS. THANK YOU EDWARD J. DENEKA CLASS OF 62

Dr. Hoffman was a wonderful doctor. He operated on my father when he was terminally ill and was a very compassionate man. He also operated on me and gave me my life back. Rest in peace to a great man.

I remember making rounds with Dr Hoffman at DePaul Health Center in STL. He loved to challenge the nurses and loved it when they stood up to his occasional gruff manner. He was a gentle giant with very large hands that worked with such expertise during very tedious surgeries! He loved his work. I overheard him telling a patient who needed brain surgery, not to worry about his bill. He would take care of it. So, he certainly paid it forward on many occasions. I loved this man. Dr Hoffman, I know you are resting in Gods embrace. Deepest condolences to his family.

Condolences to Dr. Hoffman's family. I worked with him as an RN First Assistant at DePaul. He demanded and got perfection as much as possible from his team and tried to be ethically correct as much as possible. We were all better because of him and learned lessons to continue in life....RIP man!

My condolences to Dr. Hoffman's family. He was a great man, caring, and very good at his profession -- completely trustworthy. And, yes, he had a great sense of humor. I asked him if I was going to be able to turn my head after my neck surgery. He turned and looked at me and replied, "You can't turn it now" -- probably the funniest thing anyone has ever said to me. And, for the record, I can.

Mariann,
So sorry to hear of Bill's passing. I have such fond memories of your time on Clearpoint Ln.
I remember calling you in Ca when trying to decide where to work after finishing nursing school. I talked it over with Bill and decided on Barnes. I had a wonderful career there. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Dr Hoffmann will be greatly missed. I remember him from whenever he walked into the OR and was always nice to me. One of the few Dr's who recognized that we all were a team. He was an excellent neurosurgeon and kind hearted man. He will be missed. My condolences to the family for their loss. May God bless you all. Bob
