WILLIAM HOXIE Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 3, 2023.
"God made me a carpenter."

Bill Hoxie was born in Ogdensburg, New York, on August 29, 1929, to his parents Warren and Mary Hoxie. He spent the first 31 years of his life in the state of New York. In 1961, driven by the pursuit of a better life, he and his wife, Bev (Beverly Goodrich), embarked on a cross-country journey with their four children - Robert, Carolyn, Bonnie, and Richard - reminiscent of pioneers with their covered wagons. However, they opted for a 1959 Ford Station Wagon, armed with little money but a lot of courage. Their journey took them to California, where they then flew by PanAm to Honolulu, Hawaii.

The subsequent 31 years of Bill's life were dedicated to Hawaii. He toiled tirelessly to ensure his family had both sustenance and shelter, eventually securing a job with a company constructing homes across the islands. In 1967, a son, William (Billy), joined the family, followed by Thomas (Tom) in 1970. A few years later, both Bill and Bev found everlasting peace and joy when they gave their hearts to Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit, working through Pastor Roy Sasaki in Kahuku.

In 1992, Bill moved to Washington State and semi-retired, working for his son Richard and continuing to contribute to home construction and finish work as long as he was able.

In his leisure time as he aged, Bill began crafting model trains and other wooden toys, which he loved to gift to his family, friends, and all children in need through the Stanwood Christmas House, a charity organization.

Bill moved to Stanwood Senior Center in 2015. There, he became fondly regarded by those he lived with as someone who found enjoyment not only in playing Bingo, Wii bowling, and various games but also, and chiefly, in making everyone feel welcome and appreciated through his kind manner and numerous acts of service, including opening doors and greeting all those who crossed his path daily.

He was preceded in death by his twin brothers, Robert and Richard, when he was a child, followed by his daughter Bonnie in 1999, his wife Beverly in 2001, and then his oldest child Robert in 2022

Bill and Bev had six children: Robert (May), Carolyn, Bonnie (Stan), Richard (Toni), William (Teri), and Tom (Lori). He leaves behind thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Stanwood Senior Center will be accepted in his honor.

Bill's celebration of life will be held on Sunday, January 14th, at Stanwood Senior Center Building B at 3 pm.

I HAVE TO REMEMBER MY BROTHER IN LAW FOR HIS CARPENTRY EFFORTS. WHEN I WAS AROUND 10 HE SURPRISED ME WITH A LARGE WOODEN BABY CARRIAGE. IT WAS HARD TO PUSH WITH THE WOODEN WHEELS BUT IT WOULD HOLD MYSELF OR A NEAR-AGE FRIEND WHEN WE PLAYED "HOUSE". I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HIS READY LAUGHTER AND SMILE. MY VERY FIRST BROTHER IN LAW!!!! WE HAVE TALKED OFTEN IN THESE FINAL YEARS AND I KNEW HE WAS READY TO "GO HOME". REST IN PEACE BILL AND KNOW YOU ARE MISSED!!
