Dear Edna, Cleo, Mary Agnes, Scooter, Michele, Michael, and Harley,
Miles and I send our love and deepest sympathy. I'm so sorry we couldn't get across country in time for the funeral, but I'm so happy that I got to visit in October.
We will miss him, and I know that you will too. As my only maternal uncle, he holds a special place in my heart. I have a photo of him holding me high in the air when I was around six months old. No doubt that's when I first became aware of him and recognized him as someone who was fun and good. There are so many memories of times in Birmingham and Mt. Olive; of the house on Elkton Road and Coleman Hill; of the crappie fishing and quail hunting stories; of Leroy and Daddy Roy coming in from hunting on Thanksgiving and him hugging Mama Johnson as she cooked the turkey; of the times he came home from work to take us all to Kiddie Land when he must have been so tired. All the good times and forgotten events now bubble to the surface of my memory. Judith and I spent so many happy childhood hours at your house.
While grief is natural, and it is our way of honoring those we love and lose, we hope that you will gain some comfort in knowing that one life can touch so deeply the lives of others and that Leroy was one of those people whose kindness and decency lives on in the minds of those who knew him.
With much love,

Danny Green jr.
