William Kay Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 18, 2024.
William Oliver Kay, known affectionately by his friends and family as Billy, passed away on October 11, 2024.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 22nd, 2024 in the chapel of Bliley's Chippenham Funeral Home, 6900 Hull Street Road N, Richmond, VA. 23224. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Virginia Veterans Cemetery, 10300 Pridesville Road in Amelia, VA.

Billy was born on November 6, 1947, in Richmond, VA, to the late Oliver Leondrous Kay and Audrey Emma Walker. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. His life was marked by his adventurous spirit, his generosity, and his loving nature.

Billy proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army 101st Airborne Division known as the Screaming Eagles. His bravery and dedication earned him several commendations, including a Purple Heart Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and a Vietnam Campaign Medal. After his military service, he continued his career at Reco and later at The United States Postal Service, from which he retired.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his family members: Cher Pitts (Bailey), Justin Kay (Crystal), Cory Kay (Marie), and Shannon Kay. His eight grandchildren, Abigail Chambers, Isabella Pitts, Gage Kay, Cody Kay, Murphy Kay, Preston Kay, Vanessa Roberts, Holden Pearson, and his great-granddaughter Marlee Marie Chambers.

He was an avid Harley Davidson rider, and alongside his close friend David "Doc" Strommer, they traversed many roads, sharing the joy of the open road and the bond of brotherhood. Billy was an integral member of the Steel Horse Hog Chapter, where he held numerous officer positions. He was an active member of the Patriot Guard where he participated in many charity rides such as Veterans, First Responders, and those in need. He was a master welder and had a talent for fixing anything and took pride in his craft. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in his community who needed it.

His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. While we mourn the loss of William "Billy" Oliver Kay, we also celebrate a life well-lived-a life filled with courage, service, and love. Billy's story is one that will be told for generations, a testament to the man who lived life to its fullest and left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
