William KEATING Obituary

Published by Monteal Gazette from Oct. 9 to Oct. 11, 2013.
KEATING, William P.
1925 - 2013
In his 88th year, our beloved BK died peacefully October 8, 2013 in the steadfast comfort of his family and the compassion of the palliative care nurses and staff of the Montreal General Hospital. Dearly loved by those whose lives he touched, both young and old. BK will be deeply missed by his devoted wife Mary (Wathen), children Billy (Suzanne), Susie (Mac), and David (Kim) and his eight grandchildren, who brought him such happiness and enriched his life: Christopher, Claire, James, Jeffrey, Marjorie, Martha, William and Margot. Graced with a brilliant legal mind that led to a distinguished career as a litigator, BK was first a humanist who put the interests of others ahead of his own, while always pursuing his life long interest in learning. A raconteur and devoted family man, BK imparted on his family his values of honesty, integrity, hard work and the importance of good old fashioned fun with his Irish charm. A life-long and avid Montrealer, BK raised his family with Mary within a 3-mile radius of where he was born and brought up. He so enjoyed the benefits of living in Montreal, including memorable weekends skiing at the Shawbridge Club in the Laurentiens and family summers at Kennebunk Beach, Maine. He leaves a large extended Keating clan including many caring nieces, nephews and his siblings, Aileen, Geraldine, Kathleen, Michael, Chris and Kevin (deceased). Memorial service to be held on Friday, October 11th at 1 p.m., at Mount Royal Commerative Services, Mont Royal Chapel, 1297 Chemin de la Forêt, Outremont, Quebec. BK will be buried in Richibucto, New Brunswick, a special summer place for generations of Wathen, Keating and Aitken families including his sister-in-law Marjorie Aitken, and her children Steven, Martin and his daughter Elise, Elise and her husband Rodger (Titman) and their children Stephanie and Ross, and Anne and Hugh Aitken. If desired, donations may be made to McGill Movement Disorder Clinic c/o Dr. Anne Louise Lafontaine, Montreal General Hospital, 1650 Cedar Ave H3G 1A4 or the Palliative Care Unit at the MGH.
A gracious life well lived. Amen.

Mary, Bill, Sue and Dave

On behalf of the Shick Family, our deepest sympathy goes out to all of you and your families. My parents were blessed to have seen you, Mary and Bill this summer in Montreal. Though it has been a long time for me, it feels like yesterday that Dave and I were running around the house causing trouble during those famous parties and ‘uncle' Bill throwing me over his shoulder. Our family treasures many memories of wonderful times at Portland ave, Shawbridge Club, Kennebunk and of course laughing at dads, the dogs and duck hunting. We will remember his enthusiasm for life and his love for friends and family. Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

Dearest Mary ,Suzie, Bill and David and family,

Wendy, Debbie and I feel so very lucky to have known BK, both in his prime and later on. He together with your dear Mother were great supports to our family. I know I speak for us all and my brother John when I say we just plain liked your Dad and all he stood for. I thought of him and his old hunting dog just the other day as it is duck shooting season here in Ontario. He and my Dad so looked forward to each Fall.
Our condolences to you all and so happy to have known your Dad.

With our affection, Peter D. Thomas

From the Boyle Family we wanted to express our sorrow in your father's passing, but what a great Dad for so many years. So many wonderful memories to last a lifetime. It was great to see he and your mom recently at your home in Toronto. See you soon.
