From spending countless hours on a baseball field to shooting rifles in the mountains, the times spent with Bags were well spent. His conversations on baseball and life in general always made you think a little deeper. His wisdom will be handed down to future generations to come. My son Ethan and I will miss a dear friend but will always cherish the time we spent together.
Until we meet again.
your friend

Ken had an infectious smile that could light up a room, because he was filled with the Holy Spirit, and let God's light shine through him!

From those 70's players (Clemson Tigers) that were at the reunion last year (2024) and those who were absent, I share these words of endearment to his family!
All of us loved Kenny (Bags)! What did we love about him? Well he had this welcoming, infectious smile. One that exuded confidence, trust and peace. Yes, we all were at peace around Ken. He was like a love magnet. He was patient and kind, strong and honest, full of energy and enthusiasm and humble to the core.
We loved him because he was always positive and encouraging while sharing his faith (gospel). He held hope in his hands (bat, glove and ball) and spoke instruction from his heart (genuine). I never heard a bad word come out of his mouth.
Bags showed respect to all, something that is missing in todays game. He was a great example (mentor, teammate, coach and friend). Never saw him disrespect the game, equipment, oppenents or even umpires for that matter. His wife Libby might have something more to say about that however!
Ken was a man of his word with integrity (righteoussness) in his soul. He was not only a child of God, but was also a Man of God (God fearing). He is leaving a legacy that challenges us all.
Last but not least, Bags was a class act. He carried himself with dignity, displaying his passion for baseball, life, friends, family and most importantly His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
So in closing, why did we all love Bags so much? It is because he first loved us. Sound familiar? It was his agape love that we will share again with him in the heavenly's other wise known as the Kingdome!
Sincerely,
Sebo

I feel blessed to get back with Kenny after all these years. We talked about how good the Lord has been to us. Going to miss Kenny. Always enjoyed talking to him. He always asked how my wife was doing with Parkinson´s.

I was blessed to know Ken from our mutual interest in radio. There would not have been The Matt Cole Show without Ken; all I had to do was show up and talk and he did the rest. He went on the host his own show and proved to be one of the best ever behind the microphone. We also got to do Asheville Tourist baseball together and shared one of the funniest moments in the history of radio together, in my description of a ball hit to left field.
Before baseball and radio, the true loves of his life were his beautiful wife Libby, his Sons Josh and Drew, and the apple of his eye Daughter Bethany. I know his grandchildren became just as much his loves as well.
But Ken's first love was His Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. From the last time Ken and I talked on June 7th and in subsequent texts after, it was his calmness and faith in Christ in the face of the cancer battle that stood out to me. While he knew his Earthly fate, his focus was on his eternal destination. And if I could share what I think Ken would tell everyone it would be 'get to know Jesus and let Him get to know you!'
You were more than a friend Ken, you were a brother and my life was exponentially better because you were a part of it. I love you man, and can't wait to spend eternity together!
Heads Up America, Ken Bagwell has been called Home and has heard the words we all yearn for, "well done thou good and faithful servant, welcome home."

Libby, I have never met you but worked at Clemson during the years Kenny was coaching with Coach Wilhelm. I worked in the publicity office and loved your husband. He had a passion for the game and wanted all to share it. The players loved him and we had great fun being around him.
I have not seen him much since those days but have kept up thru friends. I had no idea he was the one who hit Crash Davis´ last home run in the movie Bull Durham - on the first take! It doesn´t surprise any who knew him.
We are praying for you and your family. I know your time with his was adventurous and a huge blessing.
Blessings,

One of the best baseball people I have ever been around. Will forever cherish the memories and lessons that were learned throughout my teenage years in Weaverville from him. A Blackhawk Legend. You will be missed, Coach.

So sorry to hear about Ken. I knew Ken for many years as a reporter for the Tribune. I frequently spoke to him and remembered I was on his show when they were over off of Patton Avenue. He will be missed.

Kenny and I were classmates and baseball team mates in high school. He was a gifted baseball player and those of us who knew him understood why. He and his Dad, Cotton, were always on the high school field working on fundamentals regardless of the month of the year or the weather. Kenny was our leader whether we were in a closely contested game or just horsing around and having fun- like taking infield practice with a wiffle ball before a game. Our coach did not like when we did that !!
Growing up with and around the Bagwell Family you could count on Cotton to help you with baseball, Nell was a fixture when the high school did it's annual major production of a musical and Kelly was the little brother that some of our team mates did not have.
Kenny never lost his enthusiasm for baseball and life. And, though our paths went separate ways I always found ways to keep up with what he was doing.
I'm sorry that I will not be able to make that August 2 gathering. We will be attending a birthday celebration for our granddaughter so I know Kenny will understand.
Our condolences go out to the Bagwell Family as they deal with Kenny's passing. He will be missed but never forgotten.

Kenny´s heart was always something others saw and experienced in any conversation with him. Baseball .. Libby .. GOD. Reverse order. Such an encourager. When I was dx with stage 3 cancer he was the first to call and pray even though his dx was stage 4. Loved our conversations at church and later at ingles. Heaven rejoices. See you later my brother. Love you.
