William Lauer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 17, 2025.
William (Bill) Eugene Lauer - (who btw, was not fond of his middle name) was an entrepreneur and lover of all things fast, died suddenly at age 62.

Born March 1963 in San Jose, California, Bill was the youngest of five children (Kathy Frederickson, Karen Monroy, Michelle Tirri, and Mark Lauer) to Jackie and Tom Lauer. He graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in psychology, where he met the love of his life, Sherri Moore. The two were married for 38 years and built a life filled with purpose, partnership, and adventure.

Fluent in Japanese (after lying about fluency in European languages), Bill lived and worked in Tokyo before returning to the Bay Area to launch his first company, Pinnacle Sales International. He later joined Micron in Boise, Idaho, and founded Insignis Technology in 2016 where he was the President/CEO until his death. A brilliant thinker and natural leader, he brought energy, ambition, and boldness to everything he did throughout his business and personal life.

Bill loved speed - jet skis, snow skis, boats, wakeboarding, surfing, bikes (road & mountain) and rarely sat still. Even on holidays, you'd find him reorganizing the fridge or dishwasher (there IS a right way to load) while everyone else relaxed. He had strong opinions, a quick wit, and a magnetic confidence that often made you question your own convictions.

A skilled storyteller, known for blending humor, insight, and the teeniest dose of self-deprecation (very teeny). Even if it wasn't that funny, his laughter and energy would convince you it was.

Things that are non-negotiable:

*The Steelers are the best team (even when they lost)

*James Taylor is a legend

*Monty Python is required viewing

Bill was committed to those he loved- his wife Sherri; their children Shaun (Ashlee), Karly, and Ally (Steven); and their grandchildren Cooper, Logan, and McKenna. His additional chosen family - Jon, Megan, Nolan, and Maddi- also meant the world to him.

Those who knew Bill will remember his unwavering high standards, big heart, and knee-jerk smile. He brought intensity to life and showed up, fully, for the people he loved. He will be deeply missed. Memorial will be private at a later time. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Pride Foundation https://secure.givelively.org/donate/pride-foundation

I am so sorry for your loss. Bill always had a smile and brought joy to everyone around him. As a coach, he inspired my son and so many others. He will be deeply missed. His memories and spirit will be a part of us forever.

I am praying for the family.

Bill was someone I could trust to `shoot straight´ with me. My discussion with Bill was the reason I joined Micron under his organization. While others avoided the hard questions, he took them head-on and inspired my trust.

You will be missed !

I will always remember Bill as a kind and caring father who was there for all the kids in our neighborhood. My heart goes out to you, Sherri, and your family during this very difficult time.

I have happy memories of the neighborhood our kids grew up in and Bill and Phil coaching Shaun and Kiefer´s soccer team "Squatting Dogs"! Sending the Lauer family love.
