WEST NANTICOKE — Andrew Yanchick Jr., 80, of West Nanticoke, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2018, at Celtic Hospice Inpatient Unit, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.
Born Nov. 4, 1937, in Swoyersville, he was a son of the late Andrew and Anna (Kubasti) Yanchick. Andrew graduated from the former Kingston High School, Class of 1955, and went on to serve his country with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 to 1959. He was assigned to Company A, 2nd Pioneer Battalion and attained the rank of Corporal.
Andrew was employed by Pipefitters Union Local 524, Scranton, for many years until retiring in 1996.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Rite Catholic Church, Georgetown section of Wilkes-Barre Township, where he was very active in the maintenance of the church, working and cooking for all fundraisers and involved in all the functions at the church. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a proud member of the Nanticoke Conservation Club, Wilkes-Barre Rifle and Pistol Club, and NRA life member. He also enjoyed time working in his garden, making his own fishing jigs and lures, and never gave up trying to "re-invent the wheel."
He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Yanchick.
He is survived by his wife, the former Lillian Tomchak, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage; a daughter, Deborah Gwiazdowski (Leon), of Las Vegas, Nev.; three sons, Andrew T. Yanchick (Joanne), of Hunlock Creek, William Yanchick (Van Nguyen), of Benton, Pa., and Raymond Yanchick (Sandy), of Noxen; grandchildren, Leanne Fields, Jennifer Patterson, Laura Beth Gwiazdowski and Tanner Yanchick; great-granddaughters, Isabella Fields, Allison Fields, Cheyenne Patterson and Sadie Patterson; three sisters, Loretta Orloski, of Abington, Maryanne Smithonic (Andrew), of Dupont, and Kathryn Bobb (George), of Sweet Valley; a brother, Richard Yanchick (Joanne), of Swoyersville; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad St., Nanticoke, with Panachida at 7:30 p.m.
Liturgy for the deceased will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Rite Catholic Church, 526 Church St., Georgetown section of Wilkes-Barre Township, with the Rev. Mykhaylo Prodanets officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Marine Corps.
Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Yanchick's memory may be made to Celtic Healthcare Hospice, 601 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, PA 18704.

Andy will always be in my heart. Had the same birthday date. The father of my son in law. Has a wonderful family I love. He was a good friend. Miss you Andy , we will see one another again.
