I remember Bill Luetke quite fondly, and I am sure my brother and sister and anyone else who knew his do also. He was a close friend of my mother and father, and was a joy when he visited Monroe or when we visited him. It was a family tradition to visit his clinic on those Saturdays in the fall when the Badgers had a home game. They laid out a wonderful potluck and bar, which is the model for my own pre-game preparations. Despite the scrappy but struggling 60's and 70's teams, he was the consummate host and a joy to be around. His humor was legendary. How many times as teenagers did we escape scolding for an adult joke with the ironclad defense "I heard that from Dr. Luetke!"?
One time when we went on a family vacation by jet, we left our car (a Buick of course) with the Luetkes because they, the Luetkes, refused to allow us to pay the felonious parking charges at some risky or shady parking lot. Not only did they drive us to the Madison airport and picked us up there when we returned, they washed the car in the meantime! Forty years later that example still serves as a model of friendship and generosity. Bill Luetke is an unforgettably charismatic personality which the Zupanc children loved.
