William M. Harrell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2005.
Staff Sgt. William M. Harrell was remembered as being widely loved: "He seemed to leave a piece of himself with everyone he knew," said his wife, Kelli Harrell. Harrell, 30, of Placentia, Calif., was killed April 7 in Anbar province. He was based at Camp Pendleton, Calif. "He wasn't going to leave until it was cleaned up," she said. Kelli Harrell broke the news of his death to their son, Austin, 7, an hour after military officials came to their home. "'If he just got shot, can't they help him?'" she recalled her son asking. "Daddy can't be helped right now. Daddy's with God," she replied.

Please know that just as your loved one remains in your hearts and minds; his sacrifice, and that of your family, remains with the people he died defending. When I die if you need to weep
Cry for your brother or sister
Walking the street beside you
And when you need me put your arms around anyone
And give them what you need to give me

I want to leave you something.
Something better than words or sounds.

Look for me in the people I’ve known or loved
And if you cannot give me away
At least let me live in your eyes, and not on your mind

You can love me most by letting hands touch hands
By letting bodies touch bodies
And by letting go of those that need to be free
Love doesn’t die; people do
So when all that’s left of me is love
Give me away – Anonymous

I wish I had more than prayers to offer. My husband is retired Iraq veteran, and the warrior spirit holds a special place our home. Please know your loved one's name will be honored and your family remembered.

Hey Bill,
Was talking to Courtney today again, Just how we miss our brothers. somedays You think its ok, then I think of something or see something that reminds me of you and I lose it again. She puts the yellow flowers down on your grave for me, that is sweet. I wish I could just come down there and hang out and chat. Even if to just hear your voice again, or tell me to be good. I never in a million years thought Bill, that you would be gone. I sit again now and ponder why this disease is back, but know that you would be right here telling me to suck it up, and deal with it! The kids are so big, Wow vance is going to UCLA....He did it, 4 years on Varsity soccer, one day in Heaven he is going to collect on that Bet.. HA HA....Lexi is hunting alot these days, zach is still going to be a firefighter, he is preparing for Football....Just know I love you, and Miss you so much...

Billy -- I miss you so much! I think about you every day and pray that your family has found some peace in their hearts. The first time I met you, you were around ten years old -- I remember you doing wheelies on your dirtbike up and down the street -- you were an amazing baseball player and your favorite food was Del Tacos -- I think you ate 12 of them in one sitting! You were quick to smile, always laughing with a sparkle in your eye. You left me with many wonderful memories and I will treasure them forever! I love you! Karla (sister-in-law)

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Bill, but he is my hero.

Hey Bud,
Just wanted to Drop you a note and say Thank You for my freedom. I love you & miss you still so much. We are ok, Hopefully Life will take it easy on us now for a bit.
Wish I could talk to you, but I thank God your watching over us everyday.

July 29, 2007

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

TAPS IS SOUNDED,
YOURE IN THE RACK
AND YOU FEEL THE SHIVERS
DOWN YOUR BACK
AND DONT FEEL GREEN
THE FEELING IS THERE
BECAUSE YOURE A MARINE
SOME PRETTY GOOD MARINES
WENT TO THEIR GRAVE
THEY DIED FOR THE COUNTRY
THEY WANTED TO SAVE
WERE ALL KIND OF PROUD
OF THE GLORY THEYVE SEEN
AND YOURE PROUD TOO
BECAUSE YOURE A MARINE
IT TOOK ALOT OF COURAGE THEN
AND ITS TAKING IT NOW
BUT OUR CORP HAS ESTABLISHED
A SACRED VOW
WELL FIGHT FOR OUR NATION
AND DIE FOR HER DREAMS
YOURE A PART OF THAT VOW
BECAUSE YOURE A MARINE

I did not know you or your family. I came across your name in the guest book of a fallen soldier in my hometown, Lance Cpl. Kevin S. Smith. What struck me about you was the day you passed away. On that day in 2004, I gave birth to my first child, a son. He is my joy and my world. It's so ironic that on the day of your honorable but untimely passing, my greatest joy was born, while your family lost one of theirs. I hope my little man is as brave as you.

It has been just over a year since this fine man died in my arms. There was nothing that could be done for him that day in Fallujah.

I mourne our failures and losses and you mourne what you are missing. I pray God will find some measure of grace to bestow upon you to ease your burden.

You have my prayers.
