Hi Frances...my husband (Olivier) and I just learned of your fathers death from Dr. Louis Weatherhead a dermatologist here in Ottawa. I am so sorry to also learn of the death of your mother. I have such fond memories of working with Dr. Maddin on his slides on weekends and your mother bringing us lunch and giving me encouragement when things got tough, but I loved it...

Sincere condolences to Dr. Stuart Maddin's family and many friends.

Anne and I send our most sincere condolences. Stuart was a great mentor to me and to countless other students, residents and fellows over so many decades. He was an icon in dermatologic therapy and also a pioneer in dermatologic surgery. Neither field in Canadian dermatology would be so rich now without his presence, enthusiasm and guidance. We will miss Stuart as we have missed Betty, who was so much a part of him and his career. We are away and cannot be with you in his celebration of life, but we are there in our thoughts and wishes.

Dr. Maddin was a friend, a mentor, a best buddy's dad, an inspiration to a fledgling entrepreneur, a source of constant incredulity that he could fit so much into a day, a week, a year ... and a life. Much to emulate here and so thankful to have had such wonderful times with he and Betty and family... and his work family as well -- he surrounded himself with the best of everything and every one.

I can not find the words to adequately express my fondness and respect for this exceptional individual. He had a profound and sustained impact on me and many others; personally and professionally. Never too small to do the big things, nor too big to do the small things. His grace, wit, integrity and passion placed him in a class of his own. My condolences to all friends and family.

It is never easy saying goodbye to a friend and mentor, especially when the friend and mentor is Dr. Stuart Maddin. As many of us can attest we are much richer in life's experience for having known Stuart and for those who were privileged to have him as a mentor, our careers have only been elevated to heights well beyond our expectations.
Many will wonder how things will be without Dr. Maddin's presence and guiding hand. Many will look around and wonder where he is and how we can get on without him.
How will the Derm Update, CDA, Gene to Clinic and dermatology in general, continue without his presence? As we all know Dr. Maddin will surely be missed. Any time I attend these meetings in the future I will look around and see Stuart smartly dressed and positively impacting the meeting this time not in person, but in the legacy that he has left the dermatology world.
I send my sincere condolences to Stuart's close friends and family and reflect fondly on the wonderful times and look forward to seeing his continued positive impact and influence globally.
