William Madill Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 19, 2010.
MADILL, William Clarence June 18, 1915 - November 16, 2010 Clarence passed away peacefully at the Grey Nuns Hospital in Edmonton. Left to cherish wonderful memories are his loving wife of 67 years, Jean; his daughter, Shirley (Jim); sons, Havelock (Pat) and Brad (Caroline); seven beautiful grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren whom he loved with all his heart. Clarence was completely devoted to his wife and family. He and Jean were passionate about discovering the genealogy of their own family and were very active with the Alberta Genealogical Society helping many others to find their family roots. As a young man, Clarence had a love of horses, riding miles on his two favorites and driving teams on the family farm. He also loved airplanes, building one together with a friend. He served in the RCAF in WWII. Clarence's involvement in service and community was a lifelong commitment and included work as a volunteer ambulance driver and firefighter, first aid instructor, boy scout and air cadet leader. Members of Kirk United Church since 1965, Clarence and Jean enjoyed singing in the choir for many years, and considered the church to be their true home community. Clarence was born in Russell, Manitoba. He and his brother Frank assumed responsibility for their mother and the family farm while they were still quite young, after the sudden death of their father. Eventually, Clarence embarked in a career in the electrical utilities sector, retiring from Calgary Power after 35 years in 1980. The family would especially like to thank the staff at the Royal Alexander and Grey Nuns Hospitals, as well as the staff at the Rutherford Heights Seniors Residence, for all the wonderful care they provided. It was Clarence's wish to be cremated. A Service of Remembrance and Celebration of his Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 22, 2010, at Kirk United Church, 13535 - 122 Avenue N.W., Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army, 9618 - 101A Avenue, Edmonton, AB T5H 0C7, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 10985 - 124 Street, Edmonton, AB T5M 0H9. Dear Jean,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. You and Clarence were my first "mom and dad" away from home. I so enjoyed our time in the church choir and the laughs we shared. I loved Clarence's sense of humour and his gentle nature. How special it was when you attended our wedding in Lethbridge. You are both very precious people and I will never forget your friendship and kindness. My thoughts are truly with you. May God bless you and comfort you.

Jean and family:
I am saddened to hear about the passing of Clarence. He will join our dad, Jack (who passed away earlier this year) in that big substation in the sky.

To my long time friend Jean and the Madill families, my love and sincere condolences on the passing of Clarence. A quiet gentleman and friend. Many of us in the AGS Brooks & District branch, fondly remember the hugging door -man when we met in the old building, downtown Edmonton, Clarence was alway there waiting for us to arrive. Hospitable always. My husband Ron and I had the honour at our wedding, fory-nine years ago to have Clarence give the toast to the bride. May you rest in the comfort of our Lord.
