William J. Mahoney, Sr.
1916 - 2003

WORCESTER - William J. Mahoney, Sr., 86, of 95 Purchase St., died Friday February 28th in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after a brief illness. Born in Worcester he was the son of John H. and Margaret (Mullen) Mahoney. He graduated from North High School and earned his Bachelors Degree from Holy Cross College in 1939. He was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran. Mr. Mahoney worked more than 30 years as a Postal Supervisor for the Postal Service, Main Post Office in Worcester. He was a member of Our Lady of Rosary Church, the Main South Post American Legion, the Holy Cross Crusader Club and Alumni Association. His wife of 56 years, Marjorie (Brymer) Mahoney died in 2001. He leaves three sons, John Mahoney of Worcester, William J. Mahoney, Jr. of South Hadley, and Denis Mahoney of Shrewsbury; four daughters, Margaret Gray of Bozeman, Montana, Kathryn Mahoney of Worcester, Ellen Giannino of Monroe, CT, and Marianne Mahoney of Shutesbury, MA; a brother, Joseph Mahoney of Springfield, VA; fourteen grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Monday March 3rd from the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester, with a mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 35 Fales St. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery. Calling hours are 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday March 2nd. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 35 Fales St. 01605.
