Sun City - William "Bill" Andrew Markham, Jr., 79, passed away on October 25, 2025, in Phoenix, Arizona. He died peacefully with his wife, Christina, at his side, and after having recently visited with many family members and friends.
Bill was born on July 28, 1946, in New Haven, Connecticut, to William A. Markham, Sr. and Edith Holzer Markham. His family moved to Arvada, Colorado, in 1955. He attended The Abbey School in Cañon City and later graduated from Arvada High School. He continued his education at Rangely College (Colorado Northwestern) on a basketball scholarship, and then the University of Colorado, where he earned his BS in Business Advertising, Marketing, and Human Resources.
Bill had three children, William "Andy" Markham, III, Stella Markham, and Jeffrey Markham, with his first wife, Maureen Markham. Their family lived in several states over the years, including Connecticut, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona.
Bill was competitive, dedicated, and results-focused in his professional life. Much of his career was spent in talent development and leadership in the pharmaceuticals industry at Bristol-Myers Squibb. After retiring, he continued to mentor others through his consulting practice. He helped people "win the careers they envisioned." His clients described him as patient, inspirational, and effective.
Bill's talent for connecting with and motivating others was also evident in his service to the community. He supported people in recovery, worked with first responders, and volunteered with organizations including Hospice of the Valley.
Faith was central throughout Bill's life. In childhood, he served as an altar boy at Shrine of St. Anne Catholic Parish in Arvada. In adulthood, he served as an usher at St. Francis Xavier in Phoenix. He was a Fourth Degree Knight with The Knights of Columbus, and served on the Board of Directors of Spirit Filled Hearts Ministry.
Bill is survived by his wife, Christina Markham; his son, William "Andy" Markham, III; his daughter-in-law, Laura Markham; his stepson, Marcel Azouri; his grandchildren, Mylie Markham, Molly Markham, William "Will" Markham, IV, Harland "Harry" Markham, and Frances Markham; his sisters, Su Mooney (Jim) and Keni Johnson (Skip); and his nephew, Jay Mooney.
Bill is preceded in death by his daughter, Stella Markham, and his son, Jeffrey Markham.
A service will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 1:00pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 2312 East Campbell Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85016.
