William McKaig Obituary

Published by Chattanooga Times Free Press from Oct. 4 to Oct. 5, 2016.
William (Bill) Henry McKaig, Jr., of Chattanooga, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Oct. 2, 2016. He was born in Rossville, Ga., but lived the majority of his life in Chattanooga. He graduated from Tyner High School in 1946. Bill joined the United States Army and after discharge went to work at Dupont. He married the love of his life, Doris, in 1950 at Silverdale Baptist Church, where they served together for almost 60 years. After leaving Dupont in 1981, Bill never fully retired until 2011. You could always find him at the church, working on a project or helping someone in need. Bill was always ready to lend a helping hand and had a love for people. He was involved in the Men's Sunday School class, served in a ministry in Puerto Rico and enjoyed time with the Silverdale Prime Timers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; his parents, William and Annie McKaig; and his brothers, Herschel, Harold and Reginald McKaig. Bill is survived by his son, Dan (Lizette) McKaig, of Hendersonville, Tenn.; daughter, Wanda (Kevin) Casey, of Ooltewah; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Celebration of life service will be held Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016, at 10 a.m., in Silverdale Baptist Church chapel, with Rev. Wade Casey, Rev. Bryan McKaig, and Rev. Eddie Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. Bill had arranged for his body to be donated to the UT School of Medicine for research. Thank you to The Health Center at Standifer Place and to Hospice of Chattanooga. And a very special thanks to the caretakers of Martin Boyd Christian Home for all their love and support over the last four years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Silverdale Baptist Missions fund, 7236 Bonny Oaks Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37421 and to Martin Boyd Christian Home 6845 Standifer Gap Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421. Please share your thoughts and memories at www.ChattanoogaValleyViewChapel.com Arrangements are being made by the Chattanooga Funeral Home Valley View Chapel, 7414 Old Lee Highway, Chattanooga, TN 37421.

The last of the McKaig brothers.... So sad. Uncle Bill looked so much like my dad, Harold McKaig. Prayers and thoughts to all his children, grandchildren. He and Doris were so special . . .

Oh how we all loved brother bill. He was such a light in this world. When Logan was little he would yell hi brother bill at school, and bill would just smile and wave.We knew him for 40 years and if you were blessed to know him then you were blessed. we will miss him very much.

Joe and I are so sorry for your loss. "Mr. Bill" (as I called him) always had a smile on his face when I greeted him at Martin-Boyd. Now he's happy and healthy and with his Lord and Savior. For that we can rejoice.

I've known and loved Bill McKaig for more than 25 years. He loved the Lord, his family and his church and UT football. I don't remember ever seeing him without a smile. I believe when he arrived to his heavenly home this morning he heard his Lord say, " Well done thou good and faithful servant".
