MEAKIN, William (Bill) Walter
William Walter Meakin passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Sherbrooke Veteran's Home. Bill was born on October 16, 1921 in Borden, Saskatchewan. Bill was predeceased by his wife Renée Meakin (2006) brothers John and Nick and brothers- in-law Robert and Bert. Left to mourn his passing are sisters Mabel Floré, Trudy Meakin, Helen Olesen, brothers Allen (Verna) Meakin, Peter Meakin, brother-in-law Maurice (Kaye) Dandurand and sister-in-law, Isabelle Baldi, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Bill's devoted children; Gwen (Garry) Rudolph; Craig (Shirley) Meakin; Stuart (Janice) Meakin and Kim (Karen) Meakin. Grandchildren; Jeff Rudolph (Stacey); Angela (Brad) Ginther; Shauna Meakin, Ryan (Jessica) Meakin, Jennifer (Chanss) Lagaden; Kady Meakin; Sara (Trevor) Grenier; Ashley (Steve) Grenier. Great grandchildren; Emma, Matthew, Landyn, Lilliana, Carter, Hayden, Anson, Abby and Eli. Bill served overseas in WW11 from 1939 to 1945 with the R.C.H.A. Regiment. Upon his return he married the love of his life Renée in 1947. He started working for the Saskatoon Public School Board where he was employed for over thirty years. Bill loved to work in his shop doing woodwork in his spare time. He enjoyed coaching baseball for the Holiday Park Twin's and also hockey for the Saskatoon Wesley's. For their retirement, Bill and Renée bought a cabin on Sunnyside Beach at Emma Lake where they spent most of their remaining years. Bill was passionate about golf and played every day when he could. His greatest moments were spent at the cabin with his wife and family. Later in life, Bill moved into an assisted living home at the Sherbrooke Veterans Village and was given excellent care by the staff who worked there. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to a charity of your choice. The Celebration of Bill's life will be held on Thursday, November 15th at 10:00 am at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th St., first right past Briargate Road).
