William (Bill) Monges

It is with great sadness the family of William (Bill) Monges announce his passing. Bill was born in Modesto, California on May 12, 1962 to Alfred Monges and Ethelee Wanzer. Bill passed away on January 7th, 2025 at his home in Cottonwood, Idaho with his love Nita Chandler by his side.

Bill had six siblings, five older brothers. Henry McGuire, David McGuire Sr, Alfred Monges, Albert Monges, Robert (Bobbi) Monges, and a younger sister Debbie Cortez.

Bill moved to Baker City over thirty-five years ago. He took pride in being a cook and worked many years at the Oregon Trail Restaurant. Owned and operated by his nephew David McGuire and his wife Sandy until moving in August 2016 to Cottonwood Idaho to be with the love of his life Nita Chandler.

Bill's spirit and zest for life was remarkable. He was often found fishing and camping at nearby lakes and ponds. Bill loved having his family come together for barbeque dinners hosted by his nephew Dave. Bill loved exploring and sharing his favorite hobbies of football and baseball which he developed as a small child. Bill spent many years on the bowling teams in Baker City with his son Micheal and brother David McGurie Sr. His sense of humor and laughter would always light up the room.

Family and friends will always cherish some of his favorite quotes, "believe that", "check this out", "this is bull sh*t", "your shoe's untied", "you can't go wrong with chorizo," and "what's on your shirt" laughing as he trailed his finger to your nose. Bill's spirit will live on in our hearts through the countless memories he has shared with family, friends, and numerous nieces, and nephews who lovingly call him uncle. Bill has always said his greatest accomplishments in life were his children and grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert (Bobbie) Monges, David McGuire Sr. and his grandson Raiden Monges. Bill is survived by his children, Jill Badger, Lydia (Nathan) Holmes, William Monges, Micheal (Jessica) Monges, and Michelle Stumbo, his love Nita Chandler her children Cassie (Matt) Robertson, Ronnie (Kendra) Chandler and his 18 grandchildren: Jayden, Elisha, Gabriel, Rossy, Paige-lyn, Xander, Maddilynn, Mathius, Leiah, Thaddeus, MJ, Jack, Charlie, Gunner, Trey, Blake, Katie, Karter, and over three generations of nieces and nephews whom he adored immensely.

Family and friends may join in a celebration of life held at the Baker City Elks Lodge on March 29th, 2025 at 5pm.
