William Morf Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 10, 2010.
MORF , William (Bill) It is with great sadness that the family of William (Bill) Morf announces his passing on January 23, 2010 at the age of 80 years. Bill was a knowledgeable botanist and avid gardener. His passion for flowers and garden fauna was evident in the signature rock gardens at his home. He willingly shared his insight and experience with any and all who desired to learn. Bill was instrumental in designing the perennial flower gardens, constructing beds and supplying seed plants at the 2002 Birth Place Forest in the community of Silver Springs. He worked with the City of Calgary, the Community of Silver Springs and Friends of the Gardens of Silver Springs to establish self-sustaining gardens suitable for the Calgary climate. Beyond his accomplishments, the fondest memories will indeed be held by his children, who individually spent much time learning about pruning, planting, and arranging of colors, chatting and digging about in the gardens Bill so loved. Bill will be lovingly remembered by his children Wanda Farran (Peter), Barbara Thurston, Ernie Morf (Jane), his grandchildren Allyson Farran, Christopher Thurston, Erin Thurston, Sarah Morf, Richard Morf, former wife Nellie Pintus, and family members in Switzerland including sisters Elizabeth Peter, Bertha Bertshi, sister-in-law Anna Marie Morf, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and his brother Ernst Morf. A private memorial was held for family members. The date for a public commemoration in the Birth Place Forest will be announced in late spring. Memorial tributes can be made to "Friends of the Gardens of Silver Springs" through the Silver Springs Community Association at 5720 Silver Ridge Drive N.W., Calgary, AB, T3B 5E5.

We will always remember you for your wonderful generosity and warmth. I enjoyed taking care of your indoor plants when you were away visiting family and will miss that opportunity.
Add some greenery to wherever you are - you're the perfect person to do it.
