You were much more than a teacher to me. You had a gentle way of discerning just what question to pose to provoke a thought or consideration that was new and fertile. You also had the gift of suggesting the exact book I needed at the precise time I hungered for it. Bringing light was your art.

What a great influence he has had in my life and career as a high school teacher and professor of history. In the last week I have picked up one of his books on Wieman to finish reading it, then this morning read the sad news. At one point in a seminar he brought up the notion of living authentically. Certainly wonderful advice.
He will be sorely missed.
