Bill liked me for who I was. I met Bill the first time while spreading mulch on the fire road behind Sandy Pines. I had short pants on and no shirt and was sweating like a hog. John McCarthy told him about me so he wanted to meet me.
I will never forget him putting his arm around me sweat and all and thanking me.
He was always good to me and when he visited he always asked for me to walk him around.
He made me feel good about myself and take pride in my work.

Bill was a very competitive tennis player and achieved national distinction in the over 65 category with his partner Dick DeVoe. He had a love of beautiful cars and used to regale us with stories of his motor cycle trips in the Western part of the US. I was honored to serve with Bill on the Artis Naples Board for many years. He was very proud of his service in the Marines and of his long standing service on the University of Southern California Board . May he rest in peace. Jay Tompkins
