I had the honor of having Mr. Screws as my principal at JVHS during my attendance from 1985 to 1988. He was a great man with always a kind word and a gentle demeanor. He always stood out in my mind as a fatherly type, and he was an asset to the education community. I will dedicate the rest of my career in education to this wonderful man. He will be missed. I send my most heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. William Screws.

I was saddened to learn of the passing of Coach Bill Screws. Coach Screws was my football coach at Dodge County High School, Eastman, GA from 1960 to 1962. He was a great football coach but more than that he was a row model who was greatly admired by everyone. He taught us right from wrong and showed us the right path in life. I've thought of him many times during my life. He was a great husband and father. I will always be grateful for the leadership and encouragement he provided to the class of 1962. My condolences to Coach Screws family. As a freshman, he was my first football coach at Fitzgerald High School and was truly a gentleman and an example for all young people. He treated everyone with dignity and respect and I will always be thankful to him for the opportunities that he gave me. My mother died when I was a sophomore , and he was one of the first to arrive at out home comforting us all at during that difficult time. He geniunely cared about people and they knew it.
But most of all, I am thankful that I was fortunate to have had him as a significant part of my life. He was such a positive influence on so many people and he will be missed.

I was so saddened to hear of Mr. Screws' passing. He was a great help to me my senior year helping another of the "working class students" there find a full-time job upon graduation. My mother was a graduate of the 1965 class, the largest in JVHS history. There was a picture of the class that used to hang in the main office and I remember him pointing my mother out to me in the pic. He knew all his students and was a dear, sweet man.

Having lost my mother just three short months ago, I know the loss you are feeling now.

My hearts go out to the family for the huge loss. My heart goes out to the community for its loss as well.

Heaven has gained another great angel.

1973 was my freshman year and it was Mr Screws first year as Principal of J.V.H.S.
His picture in the paper looks the same as the one that still hangs in the front hall at Jordan. He was always a great friend to all the students, but he was a man you always respected and yet still feared, if ever your name was called to go see him in his Principal Office. For some reason it was always a long walk to see him. I guess in those days it could of been because of the Board Of Education. Back then I could touch my toes much better. I will always think of Mr Screws as a leader of young men and women. A man who cared about every student at his school. His family and adult friends called him Bill. But to the thousands of students that had the honor to know him.
He will always be remembered as,
Mr Screws Principal of
Jordan Vocational High School.
God Bless you we will miss you sir.

"God Remembers Too"
Recall the smile of a loved one,
The joy they've brought to you;
Tho' they're gone, take courage
For God remembers too!

A stronghold for the joyous
And for lonely ones that hurt,
God gives us power,
He knows we're made from dirt!

Keep Him as your companion
For "two are better than one,"
and think of the resurrection
Promised by His dear son!

In that earthly paradise
A wondrous work he'll do;
And loved ones will return
For God remembers too! - Unknown

I so appreciated the influence of Mr. Screws in my life. He took over as Principal at Jordan in its' most turbulent times. But he lead the school with firmness and fairness. My father cherished his influence and the investment he made as an educator, mentor, and friend to myself and my siblings. Our lives are richer for knowing him. My prayers go out to his family in their time of sorrow.
Blessings,
