William Smith Obituary
Bill resided in Taunton his entire life. 'Hardly a rolling stone', as he loved to say. He was employed by Allendale Insurance, now FM Global, for nearly forty years and retired as vice-president and controller. During WWII, he was a member of the United States Army and served for four years in Europe, primarily in England and Italy.
A graduate of Bentley College, in addition to being a CPA, Bill earned CPCU and CLU credentials and was a member of the financial Executives Institute (FEI). He was a lifetime member of the Segregansett Country Club in Taunton and a longtime member of Agawam Hunt in Rumford. An avid bridge player, he spent many happy hours with various bridge groups and clubs in R.I. and MA.
He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Taunton where a Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Saturday, December 13, at 11 a.m. Burial took place in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Taunton. He is survived by his close friend of many years, Pat McSweeney of Taunton, and his childhood playmate and first cousin, Raymond Gallup of East Dennis, MA. Dear Pat, I am so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. He was a genuinely kind man who took the time to say hello to everyone at the Agawam pool or at dinner. Bill always asked about our children and extended a warm hello. I no longer spend any time at the club, but I fondly remember our chats about teaching and politics.
