William Stack Obituary

On November 27, 2023, William Garrett Stack passed into eternal life peacefully at home. Beloved by family and friends, he was known as a man of Faith, intelligence, compassion, and unwavering service to all. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sylvia Jane Stack, three children - Ben Stack (Tina), Gilbert Stack (Michelle), Anna Herbst (John), seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, sister - Mary Katherine Masucci, and brother - Thomas Stack (Colleen).

Born in Kansas City, MO, Garrett was proud of his Irish heritage and loved music. He served in the US Army. He graduated from Rockhurst College and UMKC Law before relocating to Peoria, IL as a trial lawyer for the National Labor Relations Board. He enjoyed a brilliant career eventually moving his family to Northern VA in 1973, where he rose to the Board's Associate General Counsel. Retiring in 1995, Garrett received numerous accolades including the President's Meritorious Executive Award. A lifelong Catholic and daily Mass attendant, he worked tirelessly in the service of others by volunteering, teaching, and praying. He was devoted to his family and was a beloved presence at countless social gatherings. He will be terribly missed.

it is hard to believe that Garrett is gone so soon and only a year.
I will always have him in my heart.
I have only been him maybe to only talk say three hours in my life, but it seems more than that.
In family gatherings, I knew who pray over the food ,and I knew that was special to him, not because he was the patriarch of the family,it was because of his faith in God.

I have so many memories of Garrett as our parents were close friends and our families visited often when we were young. In fact, as I recall, Jane and Garrett introduced my parents. So I wouldn't exist if not for that first act of kindness! He was funny, smart, warm, and always kind and generous. He will be missed, but leaves a remarkable legacy. Best to the whole Stack as you celebrate his life.

I really didn´t know William Garret Stack very well but when I said hi to him, he made me feel like the most important person in the room.
He was not pretentious, he was a joyful and humble soul.
I will miss his meal prayers when we gathered at Anna´s home.
