My first memory of Bill is really two. First, how friendly and outgoing Bill was, as we had many a political discussion that never got heated. And Two, like everyone who knew him, how smart he was. So l hope "chip shot" Bill, as l called him, has finally learned how to chip in heaven. Still miss you Bill. You were certainly Good People.

We have been friends with Bill and Cissy for 50 years. We met shortly after we moved to Delmar in 1971. Delmar had a group called "Newcomers" that was formed for the purpose of helping new residents meet one another. We met under the auspices of that organization. They organized tennis outings and bridge games among other activities. Bill and Cissy enjoyed both those activities, as did we. Bill and I discovered that we both enjoyed golf and arranged to play in member-guest tournaments together. (At that time, Bill played at Western Turnpike and we played at Tall Timbers.) A few years later both families joined Normanside. From that time on, until we moved to Florida in 1997, Bill and I played together almost every weekend. Over the years, I never ceased to be amazed at his recall of shots and holes that we played together in the past. I could say something like "Do you remember that match that we played in the member-member tournament against George?" He would go on to recount shots made and missed, holes won and lost in a match that had occurred years before.
An interesting coincidence from those days was that our phone number was 439-5035 and their phone number was 439-0635. Both families got occasional calls for the teenage children of the other family.

Patti and l first met Bill and Cissy in 2004 at Waterlefe and we became fast friends, seeing as if we were both ex-New Yorkers. I can´t put into words all the great memories both on and off the golf course Patti and I shared with Cissy and Bill. Bill was one of the smartest men l´ve ever known. From his knowledge of the facts in trivia games to doing the Sunday NY Times Crossword Puzzle. He was simply a wealth of knowledge. Cissy and Bill were also the best hosts of so many dinners at their beautiful home with us and their many friends. And Bill was such a good sport, a true friend and gentleman both on and off the golf course. He used to laugh with me over the nick name l gave him - "chip shot Bill." Kind of an inside joke about Bill and his left handed 9 iron chipping style. The 4 of us went to Scotland in 2007 to play golf and tour the country for almost 3 weeks. Besides golf, Bill and l so enjoyed the history of Scotland. It´s was a time with Cissy and Bill Patti and l will never forget. I posted a pic from The Old Course at St. Andrews of that trip in 2007.

Rest in peace "Chip Shot."
