Seven years since Bill's death have enhanced the precious memories of a very dear friend known from college years. His outstanding contributions to the world of medicine and education live on. He is missed by me and so many others.

I am so saddened to hear this, but grateful that Bill is no longer suffering. There is so much I could say about Bill, but it is difficult to find the words to memorialize a man who was in a huge part responsible for whom I have become. Bill was the leading and shaping force in my life from when I was a child at Grace Lutheran School in Teaneck, where he was the headmaster, through my teenage years, when he advised me and helped me through very difficult times and he remained a friend and mentor through the years always gracious, ever helpful, and a strong symbol for me as a man as much as he was for me as a child. He was a friend to my family and a strong comforting presence to all of us. I mourn his passing, wish the very best to Ron as he deals with his grief and loss. I feel sad for the world that such a brilliant light has dimmed way too soon.

I'll remember Bill as a college and seminary classmate, even though we weren't close friends. I remember him as a man of integrity, a scholar, and one who loved the church's liturgy. Rest eternal grant him, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him.

Bill always brought goodness into my days at Greenwall. He was thoughtful, kind, and so very bright. He made such an impact on those around him. We will continue to celebrate his life and the legacy he leaves behind.

A wonderful friendship begun in undergraduate study at Concordia College, Bronxville, NY and continued into our retirement years has come to an earthly end. Not to be forgotten are the many visits and conversations graced with kindness, concern, humor and keen insight into the worlds of academia and daily life we all experience. We will miss Bill dearly, yet thankful for the memories and the contributions he has left behind. Eternal rest grant him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.

I will always remember the joy he had in recalling his time working on cruise ships, the pictures, chairs and other artifacts would trigger wonderful anecdotes. My life has been immeasurably enriched by our time together.

I am very saddened by this news. Bill was a long time friend and among the earliest foundation investors in the importance of access to palliative care as an ethical imperative for those living with serious and complex illness. In loving memory, from Diane and family.
