William Viney Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 8, 2024.
On December 11, 2023, William "Bill" Viney met the dawn in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loved ones and a fire on the hearth, just as he wished. Bill was born on June 30, 1953, to Sterling and Edna V. Viney in Reno, NV, where he grew up. He met the love of his life, Janelle, in Sparks, NV in 1969. From 1971-1973, Bill served in the Army Corp of Engineers in Stuttgart, Germany during the Vietnam War.

Bill and Janelle were married in March 1976, and had two children, Brandon and Amanda. Bill worked on the Southern Pacific Railroad until retiring to Nevada County. He fell in love with Nevada County when his in-laws Dave and Jenny Dygert introduced him to the area. Together, Bill and Janelle purchased a one room cabin in the woods that he enjoyed fixing up and expanding. Bill had a deep love for nature, gardening, food, family and music. He welcomed everyone into his home, and was happy to serve his homemade chili and a freshly baked cake, while playing the guitar and singing to his guests. Bill spent his years surrounded by family, friends and many celebrations. Bill was a talented guitar player, he spent many years playing music with his friends Tom and Sheri Gailbreath.

Bill would help anyone who needed it, offering up anything he had, he was truly selfless. He had a deep love for humanity and saw the good in everyone. Wherever Bill went, he was approached by random strangers, people would gravitate to him. Upon meeting him, you were old pals. His contagious laugh and positive energy made him the life of the party.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years Janelle Viney, daughter Amanda Viney, son Brandon Viney, sister Charlene Wells, brother Tom Viney, 5

grandchildren Kelsey, Adrian, CJ, Serene and Deja, and one great grandson August, nephew Justin Dygert, niece Jamie Murphy and great niece Dori Murphy. He was preceded in death by his parents Sterling and Edna V. Viney, sister Debbie Naegel, and brother John Viney.

With a fist Bump and a huge smile you will forever be in our hearts.

Bill was so happy all the time. He made me very happy when I was there. He would get up in the mornings when people where there and always made the biggest breakfasts for everyone. He was a great person. We all miss you so much. I know we will all see each again. Until then keep plying your guitar. Love Jo Ann (Your sister-in- Law) I have to stop I am crying too much.

My big brother, my oldest brother. He was my hero as a little girl and always good to me. He was always playing his guitar. He'd play anything and made up songs to make us giggle. He played Little Red Riding Hood when I was small and I always thought he made up that song, for years!! His love for Janelle was beautiful. He and I would exchange letters when he served in Germany, he sent the most beautiful postcards that I would take to school for 'show and tell'. I Love you so much, and thank you for giving us Brandon and Amanda. You, big brother hit the jackpot when you married Janelle.
