Bill was a lovely human being who cared deeply about the City and especially about the Greenways. He was instrumental in seeing to it that a memorial to my husband, Ed Smuts,Deputy Director of City Planning and father of the Greenways program was recognized. The monument, carefully selected by Bill, stands outside the tunnel at the entrance to Seldom Seen, a multi-acre greenway on the southside. He was always so kind to me and my family after losing Ed and made of so proud of Ed's work. Bill was a true gentleman, dedicated employee of the City of Pittsburgh and one of a kind. My family and I offer our deepest condolences and prayers.

My condolences to Bill's family. He was a good neighbor and did a lot of good for the CIty, the Northside and Observatory Hill. Without him, the city would have never assembled the land to expand Riverview Park and build the new soccer field. He will be missed.

So sorry to hear this and for your loss. I worked with Bill for 25 years in the Real Estate Department and he always went out of his way to help people. I especially remember his kindness and patience with the homeless man who would come in periodically.

He was always a gentleman and extremely helpful. The City has also lost a kind and courteous worker. It was my pleasure to work with him and on his knowledge. I formerly worked for PDOT and in the private sector before taht. RIP

Waddell family - you have my deepest sympathy on the passing of your husband and father. I worked with Bill for many years and he was very thoughtful and a champion of green space throughout the City. He took alot of pride in his work and he will be missed.
