Bill saw something in me at an early age...
I wrestled for him briefly while at school at Carlynton. I was young and did not see the opportunity at the time... I was too interested in "other things" going on in life. I remember in 11th grade when coach Yost asked me what my shoe size was... I knew I made his team and he wanted me on his wrestling team... what an honor... thank you coach Bill for believing in me when I was a young man!

Coach Bill was a kind, gentle soul. Joe and I had him for Algebra and really enjoyed learning in his class.

Joe Namath said it best; "Football lessons we learn continue to apply for the rest of your life, life is a team game....its the big game". There was no better Coach and Teacher of these lessons, than Coach Yost.

Bill, ALWAYS, outworked, out hustled, and out trained others in our wrestling room at Carnegie High. He was a student of the sport, along with football and passed these intangible qualities to his student and athletes that he coached. He will be missed.

Coach Yost, I had the honor of being a student of yours, a player of yours, a fellow coach of yours, and an official in a few games you coached. I always admired how much time you dedicated to your students and teams and the difference you made in so many young people's lives, including mine. Rest in peace.

To the entire Yost family, please accept our sincerest condolences with the passing of Bill. He was the Best Man at my wedding, a GREAT team mate on the wrestling and football teams at Carnegie High, during the the 60s. The best words to describe Bill are character, work ethic, effort, hustle, a stand up guy. You see, Bill was never the greatest athlete at football or wrestling, but through his coaching he excelled and instilled those intangibles to his students and athletes over many years. He put team first, he put students first. His passing is a great loss to many of his CHS Class of 64 Classmates, who will miss him at our 55th Reunion in September. I spoke to Bill in January while he was in the hospital,to personally invite him to our reunion. His last words to me were "I'll see you in September."
Right now Bill is in a better place and will be missed by all....But...."to live in hearts, we leave behind, is NOT to die."

With love from all your classmates.

My sympathies to the family. Bill and I graduated from both Carnegie High and Clarion University together. Although our paths seldom seemed to cross, I sometimes "bummed" a ride home with him from Clarion when our schedules permitted. Fond memories. Proud of his accomplishments. RIP

Mr Yost you will leave a void in this world. You saw and believed in those whom didn't believe in themselves You left an impression and influenced my life beyond words. I always loved math but with you it was beyond math you taught courage and common sense, I use your who was buried in Grant's tomb in my teachings, always think of you with a big smile. I always thought you pushed me harder than others because of your love for my brother one of your wrestling stars but you always knew there was more to some even when they thought their wasn't. My 29 years successful senior research chemistry and analytical research and now teaching part time at tech is because you believed in flower on the wall. You are thought of always bring a smile at the least unexpected moments. I never did get to tell you how much you made a difference in my life...thank you for having courage to take on a world of teenagers that really don't care or understand at that moment... thank you for never giving up on young hearts and minds. God has a special place for you Lynn Coleman

Coach Yost was a great leader who cared about our team and our development as young men. He made practice fun, always quick to threaten the infamous size nine. This world is a better place because of his kindest, generosity, and love of the game.

Although my relationship with Bill is only over the last few years, it has been easy to see what a remarkable man he is. He and I shared many stories from years ago of him coaching with my Uncle and his time with Tom Donahoe. And how he truly cared about my autistic son!! He was truly old school. I remember one day as we were talking and he told me that he has always coached and taught to help young people/men grow and that is what he cared most about.

He is where the expression of a true Pittsburgher comes when they say this is good people.!!

May God Bless him and his loved ones!

Mr Yost was a kind and caring coach and teacher. He pushed students to excel and always took the time to talk and listen to his students. I remember him and Bill Cowher drawing out plays on a blackboard. I considered him a teacher and later a friend. RIP Coach. Know you had a great influence on so many lives.
